There and back again!

Been forever since I posted here, and one of the factors was to let AJ's story be the top as it deserves.

I've been posting up to Flickr if you'd like to see what we've been up to in North Carolina :) Http://www.flickr.com/photos/andreaschwartz.

AJ Olson's story

When I was working at Volt, there was a guy there that always blew me away. He is larger than life, intense, funny, fast, brilliant. We had so much fun bantering and talking about things. On many, we didn't agree. It didn't matter, there was so much respect there. His name is Ian Olson. His wife was a frequent visitor, and I got to see their lives as they got pregnant and had their first baby (AJ) and then their second, Marlo. Can I tell you how lovely those kids were? So much love, so much joy there. Nothing fake about it.  This was years ago. We all lost track of each other, except for ocassional Linked In wave.

I got an email last night from Kathy. The Olsons baby boy has Autism, and they have been working on this for years. I did not know. Agh.

Do me a favor, and watch this video? It donates money from a charity to Autism research. It takes a YEAR to get to see an Autism doctor. A year...

Time to give and put attention on this.

Thank you!

Andrea

Another favorite: Daily Coyote

This gal went cross-country on a Vespa. Once she got to the East Coast, she headed back to Wyoming, cos she fell in love with the place. And she took in this 10 week old coyote... this is her blog.

So cold in Boston...

We went to Boston last weekend. Jon has been spending time there, working to push his company's project. It is an exhausting time for him, and I flew up to visit and see the city.
I put a bunch of pictures up on my Flickr page.  Hope you like them!

And we are in :)

No force in the universe was going to stop Jon from moving into our new house. So why try to stop it? We've been carting necessary stuff in, and we had the guest bed set up, so we could actually spend our first weekend here. We have our computers, kitchen stuff, and a place to sleep. What else can one ask for? :D  We are really loving it!

We've got a house!! Moonlight Drive is a "go"

Happy us! Our friends BJ and Sandy have decided to sell their lovely house, and they worked with us to make things work. We are stretching a little (ok, a large little) and they are squeezing a little and here we are!
It will take some time before we can live in it, as there are some repairs that should be done before we do. Looks like we'll be opening the storage unit to discover what is left that we can use (we were not planning on such a long wait, so who knows how things are faring there) and moving in by the end of September/mid October.
I've put a bunch of photos (boring maybe, but sooo exciting to us) on Flickr, but here are a few more that you can see.
Any input on furniture style would be welcome, I am guessing that a light Mission would keep things neat and please the eye, but I am such a dork with this stuff.

Hugs!

Meeting our Jones cousins!

Tired this AM, but very happy to have met Carol and Frank this weekend. What a great pair!!

We got to their DC house around 3PM on Saturday, after a smooth drive from Saxapahaw.  They live literally within a mile of Pamela’s house, in Arlington.

This is the first thing we saw:

Carol is exactly as she looks on the pictures, and so is Frank, as we found out later. He was sleeping in, as he had stayed until past 7 AM preparing the genealogy books for you and for us. And looking at the book itself, I am not surprised. It is about 750 pages long, if not more. Full of information and pictures and the best of their understanding of the comings and goings of this family of ours.

We had tea and snacks outside in the porch, they have a lovely view a little creek in a gully, with homes on both sides. Lots of oak and hickory trees that give privacy from the neighbors, and we were lucky with just perfect weather.  We talked and talked and talked and talked, and Jon was the most patient person in the Universe. Which is of course what he always is, but even more when Carol and I kept going on about cousins and uncles and towns in Germany.

Their house is lovely, a collection of 38 years of love and home-making. They had Rachel’s last exhibit’s pictures there, I took a couple of photos. One in particular really caught my eye but it seems I didn’t get a picture of it L.

Did I tell you they had put little flags inside too? Argentinean, English, Ukrainian, Israeli, Norwegian. It looked like the UN in there! It was great and warming.

Jon got more and more interested in actually finding out about his own ancestry as the conversation continued, so him and Frank got onto the laptop and Jon signed up for Ancestry.com and started looking. He’s made great progress and found out a lot of information already, it is very interesting. I am of course next in line to research Eleonora’s tree :D

Carol made a lovely dinner of fish and delicious salads and veggies (she is a vegetarian but she does occasionally eat fish) and we drank a little wine and we chatted more and more.  We didn’t leave until after we took more pictures (I’ve put some in the Family set in Flickr, , if you click on All Sizes on each picture you can see the large versions). We went off to Jonathan and Monica Archer’s house (around the corner from Pamela’s). Jonathan is Pamela’s youngest son, and he and his wife Monica were celebrating their second anniversary J. We stayed with Pamela and drove home the next day.

We got the new Harry Potter book on Saturday before we left, so Jon read aloud to me on the way over and back. Fun!!

So there is the racconto!!  They are lovely, and warm, and easy to be with. Polite and aware of sensitive areas too, great hosts.
